Headaches

Stress, tension, anxiety and constipation are some of the various causes of headaches. Tense muscles in the back, shoulders and neck may restrict blood flow to the brain, causing pain. Migraines may begin above one eye or at the back of the head and are sometimes related to food allergy. But no matter what its cause, massage can help to relieve any type of headache. The type of massage and the pressure points used, however, vary according to the intensity and region of pain. Use any of these essential oils in your carrier oil: lavender. rosemary, marjoram, thyme or peppermint. When you feel relaxed and your muscles are warm then, depending on what type of headache you have, apply pressure to the points pictured below. Usually if you are working on the right point for your pain, it will feel quite tender. Pressure should be applied for 3-7 seconds, using your thumb or your index and middle finy-rs, and should be as firm as is comfortable for you. To finish off, massage your feet, working on the big toes (which represent the head in reflexology) as well as under your other toes. Then sit quietly and relax.
